Carrier tapes are primarily classified into two types: plastic (polymer) and paper. Embossed carrier tapes are predominantly made from plastic materials:
PC (Polycarbonate): Known for its exceptional mechanical strength, high transparency, and superior dimensional stability. It offers a high glass transition temperature and excellent heat resistance.
PS (Polystyrene): A cost-effective alternative with lower mechanical strength than PC. To enhance tensile strength, it is often manufactured as a three-layer composite sheet (e.g., PS/ABS/PS).
PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate): Offers mechanical strength comparable to PC, but its dimensional stability is slightly lower due to its crystalline structure.
Others: Includes ABS, APET, and various paper or PE composite materials used for stamped carrier tapes.
